- Useful advice before using an ATM
- For outdoor ATMs: Always look around before using! If the ATM is located in a deserted area or the surroundings are poorly lighted, choose a safer, more accessible location for your cash withdrawal.
- When using indoor ATMs: Avoid situations where strangers are present in the room. Do not allow anyone to disturb you during the transaction!
- Technical inspection: Before use, make sure that the ATM is working properly – for example, there are no error messages on the display. Check for any unusual devices, foreign objects, or visible damage. Fraudsters may manipulate the cash dispenser slot, for example by taping it shut, thereby preventing cash from being dispensed.
- Secure cash withdrawals
- Before you start: Before using your bankcard, make sure that no one is standing directly behind you and that there are no suspicious individuals nearby.
- During the transaction: Position yourself at the ATM so that others cannot see your PIN code or the amount of cash you are withdrawing. Always cover the keypad with your hand when entering your PIN code!
- PIN code protection: Do not write down your PIN code, do not keep it with you, especially not together with your bank card!
- Requesting help and risk of fraud: If a stranger appears to be overly helpful during a transaction, be extra cautious! Do not let your bank card out of your hand and do not share your PIN code with anyone!
- Receipt handling: Do not leave the receipt for the transaction at the ATM; always take it with you, as it may contain sensitive data (such as your balance).
- Transaction sequence: Our ATMs first dispense the card, then the cash, and finally the receipt. Always make sure you take your bank card with you – do not leave it in the machine!
- Card retained: If the ATM swallows your card or does not return it, there may be several reasons for this: for example, the card was not taken out in time, or it was blocked due to multiple incorrect PIN entries.
